The CCAMLR Secretariat has been tasked with developing a program for CCAMLR along the lines of the NAFO Professional Development Internship Program. This paper reports the outcomes of this task and provides information to be considered on the future of such a program in the CCAMLR Secretariat.

A proposal is put forward to amend CCAMLR’s System of Inspection and remove some ambiguity as to which states must abide by this System. The proposed amendment clarifies that all Contracting Parties, whether Members of the Commission or not, are subject to the provisions contained therein.

This proposal recommends the adoption of a Conservation Measure to protect vulnerable marine ecosystems from bottom fishing activities that have significant adverse impacts on such ecosystems in the CCAMLR area.

Two of CCAMLR’s exploratory fisheries for toothfish (Statistical Divisions 58.4.3a and 58.4.3b) permit fishing outside of the prescribed season so long as longline weighting protocols are complied with. This is an informational paper to introduce the CCAMLR membership to the efforts of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) to create and operate of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). GEOSS may provide useful information and services to strengthen science and management in Antarctica. No action by the Commission is required at this time.

Observers deployed in terms of the CCAMLR Scheme of International Scientific Observation are required to record incidences of IUU fishing.
