Proposal for a roadmap to advance in the process of developing a representative system of marine protected areas in the Convention Area

The present working paper proposes a way forward to advance in the designation of Marine Protected Areas. Taking into consideration the existence of consensus and political will amongst the Members to create a representative system of MPAs, the present document proposes as key elements of a way forward a reiteration of the political will to create a representative MPA system; a realistic timeframe for its creation and a specific methodology to advance in the technical aspects. These elements are contained in a Draft Resolution and a Roadmap proposed herein.
